Three Women, Three Days Shopping in Paris: Or, What is the Definition of Trouble! Day One

Rocky and Cherolyn visited for a week on Rabelo before going shopping in Paris
Cherolyn, Rocky and I decided we needed a shopping trip to Paris.  After all, we would be on my paniche Rabelo cruising the canals of France for a week. A great way to end our holiday would be shopping in one of most beautiful cities in the world.  (Not to mention the fashion capital of the world).

We became friends because we all belong to a wonderful hiking group called Heartbreak Hiking Fools.  Rocky is one of the founders.  Three days a week we hike 4-7 miles (more occasionally) with an average of 1500 feet of vertical.  It’s a great way to make friends and stay in shape at the same time.  Rocky and Cherolyn are great hikers.  I manage to drag myself up and down the mountain.

At the train station we stopped at Paul's for a little something to eat.
We are ready to board the train to Paris.
Getting up early we left our barge Rabelo docked at Chateau de Fontenay and drove 1.5 hours to Nancy.  From there it was a 1.5-hour train ride to Paris.  Next was a taxi ride to our hotel.  After checking in and dropping off our luggage, we were ready to go shopping.  But it was Sunday and this is France.  Most everything is closed on Sunday.  Fortunately the Marais district is open, crowded and very much a happening place.  I mentioned that we all hike regularly.  The concierge said walking to the Marais from Montparnasse was too far.  Not for us.  Using our phones for navigation we found the Marais district.  Cherolyn proved to be a great navigator.   There was a buzz of excitement in the air.  Maybe it was just the many people strolling, shopping, eating, and socializing.  Maybe the excitement came from us, ready to begin our adventure.  It was wonderful.  Streets were closed to vehicles so people could stroll comfortably and safely.  There were many shops from casual to designer and everything in between.  The weather cooperated and we had only a few rain drops that couldn’t dampen our spirits.  We discovered that patent leather shoes, some with laces and some with tassels were in fashion.  Rocky is a deputy and thought those shiny patent leather shoes with laces would go great with her uniform.  We all started searching for shoes for Rocky.  Meanwhile Cherolyn and I were looking for whatever we could find that might strike our fancy.  We were successful at the same store.  I got a cute top with a matching scarf and Cherolyn got a new top as well.

We had missed lunch and needed a coffee/tea break and pit stop as well.  This meant finding a little place with tables and chairs outside so we could watch people walking by.
Coffee and people watching
After relaxing a bits we walked some more, checking out every store that had something appealing in the windows.   Rocky and Cherolyn finally declared they couldn’t survive until 8 pm when I had made dinner reservations.  They needed sustenance!  We searched until we found a little place that served dinner before 7 pm.  The food was fine but the desserts didn’t appeal to us.
A little Bistro where we could have an early dinner.

It's important to stay connected.
My dinner of Asian seasoned, seared chopped raw beef patty was excellent as were the fries.
After dinner we found the most amazing ice cream parlor while walking back to our hotel.  It was Amorino, on 4 rue de Buci.  Cherolyn and I had to sample the ice cream.  Rocky had a chocolate bar in her purse.
Ice cream cones are made to look like beautiful flowers.
Another example of their flower ice cream cones.
We enjoyed our ice cream.
Walking back to our hotel after a great day of shopping and eating, crossing the Seine we could see the Eiffel Tower.
Day One
16,619 steps
7.58 miles
2407 calories
14 flights of stairs (we don’t use elevators)

Definitely a great beginning!

Stay tuned for days two and three.
