Chateau de Savigny-les-Beaune, Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Pernand-Vergelesses, L'Hotel-Dieu,Burgundy, France

Charming village nestled among the vineyards in Burgundy
Golden light on the fields of France in Fall positively glow.

Once Rabelo was back in her home port of St Jean de Losne, it was time to show our friends around Burgundy.  It’s unusual to combine more than one activity at a time.  We can see a Chateau, go wine tasting, or visit a museum.  At Chateau de Savigny-les-Beaune owned by Michel Pont, we had something for everyone.  For the men there was an amazing collection of 80 fighter planes, approximately 30 beautiful red Abarth race cars, 300 motorbikes, 2300 model planes showing the history of aviation, vine tractors showing the original funky engineering, and so much more.  There was a chateau for all of us to admire.  There were vineyards surrounding the chateau, and when we ladies had seen enough of all the boy toys, we sampled a few delicious grapes that were missed at harvest.  We then went back to the main building and sampled wines while waiting for the guys to finish gawking at all the things with wheels, wings and engines the owner had collected (and continues adding to).

Chateau de Savigny-les-Beaune is surrounded by magnificent vineyards.

The girls sampled a few grapes left over from the harvest.  Sweet!

No, we will never grow up!

Fireplaces were huge and used for more than simply heating the chateau.

The Musee de l'Hotel-Dieu in Beaune shows a complete explanation of the history of health care along with beautiful artwork.  Built for the poor in 1443 this hospital provided care until 1971.  Visiting the museum allows you to see what daily life was like in this facility, their pharmacy, laboratory and kitchen.  It is all laid out clearly and beautiful.  The roof is a dramatic example of tile work Burgundy is famous for.

It was time for some serious wine tasting.  We returned to Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Pernand-Vergelesses where Christine Gruere Dubreuil guided us through her most recent delicious wines.  Visiting with Christine is always a treat.

The men were happy at the winery.

Cherolyn, Lovita and I enjoyed sampling the wines.

Our new friends Paul and Glenda (whom we met at Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Pernand-Vergelesse) brought a variety of wines to Rabelo for us to sample.  It was a happy group in the kitchen helping prepare our meal.

Pajama party in the morning on Rabelo.  Hey guys, you are too connected to your electronic devices.  You're retired and supposedly on holiday.
